February 07 2017

ChevallierWe couldn’t be happier with the start of 2017, especially with our All-Weather team who continue to run well. January bought three winners and 7 places from 11 starts and February has already bought one winner.

Ride The Lightning got us off the mark for the year when winning a 1m4f Handicap at Wolverhampton, showing great determination to get up on the line under a strong ride from Luke Morris. He has since improved again with a solid second over 1m6f at Chelmsford City. He is incredibly consistent and will make up into a nice stayer this year on the turf.

New signing Attain, who Archie claimed in December, stepped up in trip to 1m4f and produced a career best to win a competitive Amateur Riders Handicap at Lingfield under a perfectly timed ride by top amateur Simon Walker. He showed great resolve to wear down the progressive favourite, General Hazard, in the shadow of the post. The runner up has since also joined the yard, purchased at the February Sale at Tattersalls last week.

The following day, yard stalwart Chevallier had his day in the sun at Lingfield. After seven consecutive places for the yard, he finally got his head in front, kicking clear in the straight and holding off all challengers in the feature 1m Handicap (pictured above). No horse deserved to win a race more, as he is a victim of his own consistency, never getting a break from the handicapper.

February has started well with Alkashaaf gaining a deserved victory at Newcastle on Saturday night under Oisin Murphy. Another horse who has been incredibly consistent since bought as a maiden in October, he has now won two races for the yard.

At home the 2yos are cantering away nicely after their Christmas breaks and some new acquisitions from the Horses in Training Sales are settling in to their new routine. We are hopefully building a solid team with the turf season in mind. It isn’t that long until it all starts again!
