March 31 2017
February and March have resulted in 4 winners being sent out from Saxon Gate, as the team continues in good form.
Old favourites Chevallier and Alkashaaf added to their tally in February with game wins at Lingfield and Newcastle respectively. Both are having a little break now after busy winters and will be back for the better ground around the beginning of June.
Two new acquisitions, Absolute Blast and General Hazard, have also made huge contributions.
Absolute Blast ran a massively brave race to be third, beaten only a neck and a head, in the Group 3 Winter Derby at Lingfield on her debut for the yard. An incredibly progressive filly this winter, who we had been following for a long time, joined the yard in February and has hugely impressed us. Her run at Lingfield was very promising and she is an exciting prospect for group races on the turf this year. First she will take in the Listed Magnolia Stakes at Kempton tomorrow (Saturday 1st) and then hopefully return to Lingfield for the AW Championships Finals Day on Good Friday.
General Hazard, a 20,000gns purchase at the Tattersalls February Sale, has proven himself to be quite the bargain, winning both of his starts for the yard at Newcastle (pictured above) and Chelmsford under Ben Curtis. A lovely big scopey horse, by a sire whose stock improve with age, he is an exciting prospect for middle distance handicaps this year. He steps up in class tomorrow in the historic Rosebery Handicap at Kempton Park on what is an exciting day for the yard. Both he and Absolute Blast are in great order at home.
The Turf Season is finally upon us, and whilst we are on the All Weather this weekend, it won’t be long before we are back on the grass with runners. The turf squad, including the 2yos, are gearing up and a few will have their first starts of the year during April. Exciting times ahead!
